This pouch is a reproduction of the bronze Shikyou-son, an owl-shaped object that was once used as a sake vessel. The Shikyou-son is said to have been a guardian of the night when "bad things" run rampant, and the way its neck turns around has also been reproduced. Founded in 1960 for the purpose of preserving, researching and displaying art pieces formerly owned by the Sumitomo family. The ancient Chinese bronzeware and mirrors collected by the 15th head of the family, Sumitomo Shunsui, from the mid-Meiji to the Taisho periods are highly regarded around the world as the most comprehensive collection in terms of both quality and quantity outside of China.
