The joy of carving and dyeing Ise Katagami

This kit allows you to enjoy beautiful Japanese patterns and traditional craft techniques. "Ise Katagami" is a stencil used for dyeing kimonos, and is designated as an important intangible cultural property as a traditional craft of Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture. We deliver authentic katajigami (patterned paper) every month, which is made by layering several sheets of washi paper, pasting them together with persimmon tannin, and finishing them with smoking and drying in the sun.
Ise stencil craftsman Keiko Nasu (＠kataya2110) has created six designs that even beginners can try, such as "Unique Bishamon Tortoise Shell Pattern," "Diamond Lattice Pattern with Small Flowers," and "Circular Pattern with Diamonds." The completed stencils come with a frame so that you can enjoy them as interior decoration. We also recommend the soft cutting mat recommended by Nasu, which allows the blade to move smoothly, and the design knife, which can be used delicately.

Once you have carved your piece, you can stencil it using a makeup sponge and ink pad that you already have.

In addition to wrapping paper and letter paper, you can also use the fabric ink to dye handkerchiefs and other items.
