Intaglio woke up from his slumber.

Vintage glass parts that had been sleeping in a warehouse in Germany for over half a century. This is one of those called "intaglios" and is characterized by being carved using a technique called sunken engraving. Conversely, carvings that are carved using a technique called relief engraving so that they stand out on the surface are called "cameos." This may be more familiar to you. Intaglios originated from hand engraving of gemstones, and in ancient times they were used by aristocrats to carve initials or family crests into rings and other objects to wear as seals.

By engraving thick transparent glass, the motif appears to emerge in three dimensions. In the 1970s and 1980s, mass production became possible through the use of a technique called sandblasting, and they were actively produced in Germany, but after that, they became polarized between cheap Chinese accessories and one-of-a-kind craft items, and domestic production in Germany gradually declined. Why not look at this small piece of glass and think about the historical background, technological progress, and the transience of things.

The design motif is a butterfly, which is said to bring good luck and change in Germany. It has a hole, so it can be worn as a necklace by threading it through a jump ring or A-ring.
