A casual white shirt.

For this Japanese craft project, I used a fabric made by the Japanese fabric brand Shuttle Notes, which is packed with attention to detail, to create a white shirt that grows on you the more you wear it. I chose a twill fabric made with a thread called "old" that was spun on an old spinning machine. Old is spun slowly, which gives the thread volume and softness. The fabric is woven tightly using 20-count old thread for the warp and 20-count carded thread for the weft, and although it is thick and firm, it does not feel stiff, but rather has a certain suppleness to it. Also, while white is usually bleached after it is made into fabric, this fabric is bleached beforehand at the yarn stage, which is a key point in keeping the fabric full and soft. I hope everyone will try it on and feel the difference. I asked Tomie Kobo in the Goto Islands of Nagasaki to do the sewing.
