This towel handkerchief, printed with the image of the venerable Enku Buddha, can also be used as a plastic bottle cover. As soon as you put a plastic bottle in, you'll be unable to help but clasp your hands together in prayer as the Buddha stands up straight! The front and back are faithfully reproduced in print. Be sure to bring it with you on your summer temple tours.
[What are Enku Buddhas?]
This is the general term for Buddhist statues carved by the monk Enku, who was active in the early Edo period. They are characterized by a very rough and simplified appearance, and no one other than Enku has been able to create such unique expressions that have a sense of humor amidst their rough expressions. One theory is that Enku carved and left behind Buddhist statues in hopes of good health for the people he met on his ascetic journeys.
