This marks our third collaboration with Kitako Co., Ltd., a specialized manufacturer of printed fabrics. The motif we chose for the print is "ears of grain." The print features eight different types of ears of grain, starting with the shining golden silver grass, followed by ears of rice, wheat, and barley, as well as the dog-tail-like foxtail grass, sparrow-shaped tea leaves, strawberry tassels, and cattail ears. The challenge was how to capture the delicate lines of the ears of grain in print. The design was created by designer Nishimura. This was his first time working with a pattern entirely composed of ears of grain, and it was difficult to balance them and add variety to avoid monotony. However, he achieved the beautiful, dynamic pattern we envisioned. We consulted with artisans at the printing factory as well as those creating the patterns to determine how much of this delicate pattern we could capture in print. We used a dual-wielding printing process, combining dyes and pigments, to achieve the fine details. We created a shirt printed entirely with ears of grain, perfectly capturing the essence of the season.
