Traditional Japanese patterns with sparkling neon accents

This Yuzen-dyed folding fan was born from an encounter with Shogado, a Japanese stationery store in Kyoto. The designs are classic Japanese designs with a sense of elegance selected from Shogado's precious archives. While making the most of the delicate Japanese patterns, it is finished with multiple layers of fluorescent colors and silver glitter. It is a beautiful folding fan that sparkles every time you fan it.

This beautiful design features plum blossoms, camellias, maples, chrysanthemums and other seasonal Japanese flowers in full bloom against the traditional auspicious Kanoko pattern background. The silver line drawings add a glittering accent.

We visited the Yuzen factory that handles the dyeing for Shogado. Many patterns are stored in the warehouse.

Buckets filled with dye are piled up. The artisans use their skills and intuition to delicately adjust the colors.

The craftsmen dye the fabric with expert hands. Beautiful patterns emerge by carefully layering each color.
