Women in their 60s should choose mid-length coats! [Mimi's Fashion Lesson]

This winter,"I'm done with long coats!"This declaration comes from Mimi, a stylish YouTuber in her 60s. She says she made the decision after a spectacular fall the other day. So, this season, Mimi has chosen only mid-length coats from Sunny Clouds' new collection. Here are four coats with the perfect length that allows for easy movement and walking, while also completely covering your hips!

Reversible coat with boa and quilting

This boa coat in a gentle ivory color brightens the complexion. The length, which covers the waist area, and the quilted sleeves are also appealing, but there's actually another reason why Mimi loves it. And that is...

Actually, this coat is reversible! When you turn it inside out, it instantly transforms into a coat made of textured nylon fabric. On this side, in addition to the sleeves, there is wavy quilting on the pockets and around the shoulders on the back.

"Even though it's reversible, both sides are ivory, so the impression doesn't change drastically. But that's okay. At my age, it's not about what other people think, but rather about having more fun for myself, like 'Which side should I wear today?' or 'Maybe the boa side would suit this outfit better.' There's something exciting about having something that only you secretly understand."

Underneath her coat, she wore a knit top with a cattail-inspired pattern and a corduroy skirt.

"Dark brown is a color you have to be careful with, as it can easily give off a 'grandma' vibe. But this one has white in the pattern, and if you coordinate the outerwear and skirt in white as well, the overall look becomes lighter, so you can wear it with confidence. Plus, this sweater is generously sized but lightweight, and it's so soft and fluffy that it feels like you're being gently wrapped up, which is really comforting."

Hunting jacket style quilted coat

Mimi"It's so light you can hold it with just one finger!"What I was so happy about was this quilted coat. Because it's a mid-length coat, I can easily throw it on, and it doesn't make my shoulders stiff even when I wear it for a long time, so it's especially useful when I'm out all day.

(Left) When all the buttons in the front are fastened, the casual feel is toned down, creating a more refined look. The corduroy on the collar, cuffs, and pockets adds a chic accent.
(Right) To prevent cold wind from getting in, fasten the snap buttons and pull the cuffs tight.

(Left) The pocket is double-layered, with one pocket under the flap and another behind it.
(Right) The quilting stitches are curved, giving it a soft feel. It blends well with even elegant outfits.

Mimi paired her favorite coat with a terracotta-colored turtleneck sweater and a jumper dress with contrasting materials on the front and back.

"A straight-cut jumper dress can be difficult to put on and take off if the neckline and sleeves are tight, but this one has a wide opening, making it easy to put on and take off! That's a big plus for people of our generation. Pairing this deep V-neck with a turtleneck creates a lengthening effect, making you look even slimmer, and I think it balances well with a textured quilted coat."

A loose-fitting pure white coat

Next, Mimi chose a stylish, pure white coat that makes you look forward to winter. It's a sophisticated mid-length outer garment that you'll want to wear on a special occasion.

"It's not extremely lightweight because it's generously sized, but if it were a long length, I probably wouldn't have been able to manage it (laughs). It's a style that can only be enjoyed because it's a shorter length."

Opening the front buttons gives it a slightly more casual look. The poncho-like silhouette looks great from the side and the back!

"Lately I've been wearing a lot of loose-fitting sweaters and knits with voluminous sleeves, so a coat like this with room around the sleeves is really helpful."

I love that the dress she's wearing underneath has a Christmas rose pattern. Since it's both a floral and striped pattern, it also has the effect of making her look taller. Furthermore, the short length of the cardigan enhances her figure, making this a winter outfit that really lifts your spirits.

A black coat with a hidden check pattern on the inside.

This is an all-black outfit, combining a black dress with a black coat. The red arm warmers and moss green socks are the main accent colors. ...Or so I thought, but there's actually one more accent color hidden within!

That's right, the inside of the coat is lined with tartan! And it's a check pattern that includes red and moss green! Mimi, you pay attention to every detail!

"This outfit looks stylish even when you take off your coat and hold it in your hand while you're out. I'm strangely drawn to these kinds of hidden details (laughs). This time, I picked the colors of the arm warmers and socks from the colors of the check pattern, but I think it would also look great if you chose yellow or orange."

With its concealed placket and chin strap to secure the collar, fastening the front buttons gives it a much more refined look.

"Even though it's a mid-length dress, the black color gives it a polished look, so it seems suitable for formal occasions as well."

According to Mimi, the dress she was wearing underneath was"The best clothes to flatter your figure!"The high waistline creates a leg-lengthening effect, the long ribbed cuffs and puffy sleeves make your arms look slimmer, and the double-ribbed turtleneck completely covers the neck, which is "the number one place women in their 60s want to hide"—it's a truly clever piece.

[Mimi's Fashion Class] Retrospective Interview

—Why did you start choosing mid-length coats?

"Since I usually rely on my car for transportation, I've always preferred short or mid-length outerwear that's easy to drive in, but I also wore long coats depending on the situation. Lately, however, I've started to feel like I should graduate from long coats. That's because the other day, I took a spectacular fall in a place where there was nothing to trip over... I really felt that my footing is getting unsteady (laughs). The injury hurt, but more than anything, my spirits plummeted, and it was tough to let that linger for so long. At this age, I realize that both my physical and mental resilience is weakening. So, as a countermeasure, I've started prioritizing ease of movement when walking and choosing shorter outerwear."

—That must have been tough... But the coat you've chosen this time looks like it will be easy to wear.

"That's right. A mid-length coat hides any areas you might be self-conscious about, like your stomach and hips, and it makes your legs look neat, so it's easy to balance even with a voluminous silhouette. When I was younger, the rule of thumb when buying a coat was to choose one size larger so you could layer clothes underneath. Because of that, I always ended up looking like the coat was wearing me. But recently, there are so many 'comfortable and stylish coats' with designs like drop shoulders and dolman sleeves that are loose-fitting but have a well-calculated overall silhouette, so I'm really grateful for that."
