Brown outfits for women in their 60s can be elevated by adding white! [Mimi's Fashion Lesson]

Brown remains a trendy color this year. It might seem like a difficult color for those in their 60s, but fashion YouTuber Mimi smiles and says, "If you combine it with white, your complexion won't look dull and you can wear it with a light touch." So, this time, we asked her to suggest some "brown x white" outfits that are perfect for the upcoming season.

Add white with a layered-look top.

It's still quite hot, but a brown short-sleeved top is a great item to wear when you want to create an autumnal feel. Thanks to the white accents at the hem and cuffs, even a dark brown can be worn in a refreshing way.

"This piece looks like it has a white top layered underneath, but it's actually a versatile piece that combines brown and white. In 60s fashion, the rule of thumb is to 'place white around your face,' but doing only that can get boring, and it can be difficult in autumn and winter outfits. So let's just say it's OK as long as there's white somewhere in your whole outfit (laughs). Of course, clothes with white accents are a good choice, but choosing a white bag or shoes is also a good idea."

(Right) The white buttons lined up on the chest have a great effect. They make the face look brighter.

For a versatile outfit, I switched the chinos for the bottoms to wide culottes. The soft, flowing silhouette is so relaxing.

"Brown gradients create a softer look than monochrome, but they can also give a blurry impression. Adding white in between will make it look much more sophisticated."

Add white to your bottoms.

Even a dark brown top can look so light and airy when paired with white bottoms. Adding a long necklace further enhances the complexion.

"I want to shout from the rooftops that white pants aren't just for summer! They're a versatile item that perfectly balances the weight and lightness of autumn and winter outfits, so you're missing out if you don't incorporate them into your wardrobe!"

This top combines two different shades of brown. Even when paired with plain pants, it avoids looking bland.

This outfit uses the same white pants, but with a different top. This brown top was created by Mimi."These are clothes made for people in their 60s!"This is a product I wholeheartedly recommend.

"The pleats at the hem not only add a touch of style, but they also camouflage my slightly protruding belly. And, as I've gotten older, my elbows have started to wrinkle, so I'm grateful for this perfect sleeve length."

The back features a higher seam. The long, flowing pleats help to conceal any areas you might be self-conscious about, such as your hips.

"The white of the pleats and the pants appear to connect, so it might even create the illusion of longer legs!"

Add a touch of white with a long cardigan.

As the mornings and evenings start to get chilly, it's time for a light cardigan. Mimi paired her brown dress with an ivory long cardigan.

"Using black or navy to create a more streamlined look is lovely and autumnal, but since a long cardigan covers a large area, it might end up looking dull and heavy, especially when paired with a brown dress. I think women in their 60s look healthier when they choose brighter colors."

This crisp, dry-textured cardigan is perfect for early autumn. The hood adds a touch of style to the back, giving a casual touch to a dress.

(Left) The dress features shirring positioned slightly above the waist, creating a flattering silhouette.
(Right) It looks like a small floral pattern, but it's actually a mushroom pattern! Nine different kinds of mushrooms are scattered throughout, so finding out what's depicted is one of the fun parts.

Add a white inner T-shirt.

For a workwear-inspired look, choose a camel-toned brown to create a softer feel.

"Since the combination of chino shirt and hickory pants is made of casual materials, I made sure it didn't look like work clothes. I also chose a white T-shirt with a soft texture to brighten my complexion."

To further tone down the casualness, close the front and cinch the matching fabric drawstring to create a silhouette that looks like you've tucked it into your bottoms. Letting a little bit of white peek out from the neckline and cuffs will also help maintain a light and airy feel.

(Left) The casual rivets on the chest pocket and the understated concealed buttons on the placket create a nice balance.
(Right) The long-sleeved T-shirts are delivered one color each month from a selection of three colors. If you choose black or blue for your innerwear, you can add white with your bag or shoes.

[Mimi's Fashion Class] Retrospective Interview

—Brown clothing seems like it would be useful during the changing seasons.

"As the hot season gets longer every year, brown clothes are a lifesaver because they're cool to wear and give me a look that's ahead of the season. I plan to buy more this year!"

—However, it seems difficult for someone in their 60s to pull off wearing brown clothing…

"That's where the brightness and lightness of white items become important. If you incorporate white somewhere in your outfit, your complexion will look brighter, so you don't have to worry about looking dull. Brown goes surprisingly well with any color, so I encourage you to try out various outfit combinations."

— Do you have any other outfit recommendations besides the ones you've shown us today?

"Brown has an image of suiting traditional styles. Pairing it with British check patterns would make for a lovely look. This autumn, I'm thinking of combining dark brown with deep green or burgundy clothes to create a noble look."
