Cross-stitch is the gateway to a rabbit hole.

Yoko Kurimura shares her wonderful cross-stitch creations and her lifestyle surrounded by handmade items on social media.
We asked them about the charms and stories they've enjoyed for many years.
The reason was my overseas assignment.
Ms. Kurimura says she started seriously doing cross-stitch two years after getting married, when her husband was transferred to the Netherlands. "We lived in the Netherlands for about six years, and I encountered cross-stitch from various European countries. Because kits and designs were readily available, I started doing it seriously."

His passion never waned after returning to Japan, and he has since created approximately 600 works!
"I'm usually stitching three or four pieces at the same time. Sometimes I get the urge to stitch something different halfway through (laughs)." Her favorites are antique patterns and natural motifs like flowers and plants. She frames most of her pieces and enjoys changing them in her room with the seasons.
Cross stitching alongside your memories
Ms. Kurimura says that the moments when she feels it's all worthwhile are when she frames her beautifully designed cross-stitch pieces or turns them into pincushions and small items as gifts for family and friends, and they are delighted. "The piece I made for my daughter in particular was displayed as a welcome board at her wedding, and seeing how happy she was with it remains in my heart, and I feel a warmth in my heart every time I remember it."

Furthermore, when her grandchild was born, she and her daughter made a birthday sampler together, which has become an unforgettable memory. It was a wonderful story that made me think that cross-stitch will always be a part of Ms. Kurimura's memories.
The fun that spreads on social media
"These days, I can see other people's work on social media, so there's also the joy of connecting with people all over the world. I never imagined that cross-stitching could broaden my horizons so much."
Ms. Kurimura also likes "SAL (Saru)," where the design is revealed in parts. "The Mystery Forest from Couturier, which was released to commemorate the 20th anniversary, was so much fun that I stitched it twice. I think one of the interesting things about cross-stitch is that the look changes depending on the thread used, such as matte variegated thread or glossy thread."

I will continue with cross-stitching
"The charm of cross-stitch is that when you're stitching a design you love, it's so enjoyable that you lose track of time and become completely absorbed in it. When I'm feeling down or worried, stitching calms my mind. Also, no matter how big the finished piece is, the sense of accomplishment when it's complete is deeply moving." Above all, it's wonderful to have something you enjoy doing, says Ms. Kurimura with a smile. Her love for cross-stitch will continue to bring her even more enjoyment in the future.
