Mini sketchbook pendant

I took apart a retractable ballpoint pen that I got as a promotional item because the ink stopped flowing, and I discovered some interesting parts. The tiny spring embedded in the refill looked like something that could be used to make miniature goods...and I had an idea! What I ended up with was a small sketchbook. This time, I turned it into an accessory.

★Things you'll need★

• Retractable ballpoint pen

• Pendant chain and findings
• Foam tray

★How to make it★

① Stretch and spread the springs so that the gap between them is about 0.3 cm.

② Cut two pieces of cardboard from the empty box to use as a cover, and punch holes in them with an awl to match the spacing of the springs. Cut the ends of the springs so that they can be easily threaded through the cardboard.

③ Connect the two cardboard pieces by rotating the spring. Cut off any excess with wire cutters and use pliers to press the ends inward to prevent them from being sharp.

④ Glue a piece of foam tray, cut slightly smaller than the cover, to the inside. (Both the front and back covers will be glued, so it will be closed.) Attach the label and pendant chain, and you're done.

★Tips for making it★

You can create the effect of overlapping paper by drawing lines on the cross-section of the foam tray that you place inside with a utility knife. (Hold the blade of the utility knife at an angle and lightly press it in to make a mark.)
